Strand: Chemical Sciences
Mind Over Matter program content
An excellent introduction to senior Chemical Sciences. Explore a variety of materials, their properties (including strength, hardness, absorbency, weight, bouyancy) and their uses. Be intrigued by the properties of liquids, solids and gases and how they change with temperature. Observe change through melting, burning, reacting, dissolving, mixing, heating and cooling. See some future materials and some very strange matter.
Australian Curriculum
Year 4 – Natural and processed materials have a range of physical properties. These properties can influence their use.
Year 5 – Solids, liquids and gases have different observable properties and behave in different ways.
Year 6 – Changes to materials can be reversible, such as melting, freezing, evaporating; or irreversible, such as burning and rusting.
Year 7 – Mixtures, including solutions, contain a combination of pure substances that can be separated using a range of techniques.
Primary Science Understandings
